National Weather Service Norman OK
142 PM CST Sat Nov 23 2024
...New NEAR TERM, SHORT TERM...
.KEY MESSAGES...
Updated at 140 PM CST Sat Nov 23 2024
- Warm weekend.
- Cold front arrives Sunday night with cooler temperatures for
early next week.
- Another cold front arrives Wednesday morning.
&&
.NEAR TERM...
(Rest of today and tonight)
Issued at 140 PM CST Sat Nov 23 2024
South winds will continue to increase through the rest of today
and into overnight hours as the surface pressure gradient tightens
due to troughing along the lee of the Rockies. Dewpoints will
increase in response to the southerly flow, so overnight lows will
be a little warmer tonight. Most of the area will only get down
into the low to mid 50s.
A cold front will begin to move into northern Oklahoma early
Sunday morning. This cold front will keep overnight lows across
northwest Oklahoma a little cooler (low to mid 40s) than areas
south of the front.

.SHORT TERM...
(Sunday through Monday night)
Issued at 140 PM CST Sat Nov 23 2024
Surface winds ahead of the aforementioned front will still be
breezy sunday, aided by a strengthening surface pressure gradient.
Winds along the front are expected to relax some, but winds
behind the cold front will be breezy as well. Much cooler air will
follow in the wake of this cold front, with highs Monday only
getting up to the low 50s. Widespread freezing temperatures are
likely Tuesday morning, as there will be sufficient radiational
cooling in addition to weak northerly winds. The main forcing will
remain well to the north of the area, so dry conditions will
persist.

&&
.LONG TERM...
(Tuesday through Friday)
Issued at 215 AM CST Sat Nov 23 2024
Large surface high settles south over the area for Tuesday with a
possible freeze that morning across much of the area and a cool day
with light and variable winds shifting to the south during the day
as the high shifts east. A bit of a warm up on Wednesday ahead of
quick moving storm system that will bring another cold front south
through the area Wednesday night. Although currently the forecast is
dry will need to watch for some low rain chances to return and
perhaps the possibility of some light snow for late Wednesday and
Wednesday night.
Colder airmass behind this front should bring a freeze to much of
the area Friday morning.

.AVIATION...
(18Z TAFS)
Issued at 1124 AM CST Sat Nov 23 2024
VFR conditions are expected to prevail through the period
with variable high clouds. There is a low chance of
low clouds (MVFR) developing after 10-12Z Sunday and mainly
across southern Oklahoma (DUA). Will not mention MVFR ceilings at
this time. Meanwhile, a breezy southerly wind will prevail, with
perhaps low-level wind shear developing late this evening and
overnight.
